trunk partition gas struts R&R
Thanks
Open the top so rear panel is just about vertical. The socket & ball on the top of the struts are easily visible. The bottom strut socket is identical but harder to see/reach.
You can see the ends of it where they bands attach, you'll see a metal band wrapped around the end. This is a spring clip that locks the strut's socket onto the ball. Locate the notch and insert a long, thin flat screwdriver to loosen the metal band. Then insert a tooth pick into the space to maintain the spacer Remove the screwdriver & you should be able to yank the "ball" from the socket. To install the bottoms, I also used tooth picks.
Thanks
pair of hands) to separate the lower connection point. You can access the upper connection with the partition closed (just be careful with the micro SW on the left).
I did it by opening the top boot and letting the rear window fold up. Worked from above.
Top ball was super easy to lift the clip. Bottom one took some fiddling, but mainly because I was working alone in a dark garage. Would have been much faster if I had better light or a third hand to hold the flashlight.
