Suspension? noises.

First thanks for adding me to the group. When her father died my wife and I bought his 2005 CLK 320 with 89,000 kms on it. I’ve tried searching and found several posts but the noises others have described don’t seem to match what I’m hearing on my car. Can someone first tell me how to upload a video file? When I try to attach it appears to be just a photo and when I attempt to open it, it shows the play button with a line through as if there is no file. Sorry for the amateur computer skills.
Edit-looks like the one clip of the rear clunk loaded. I’ll try for the front one now.

Can you tell us in what conditions each of the noises appear - steady speed, bumps on the road, supension compressed or distended, turning right or left, etc? Look for patterns connected to what the car is doing, or going through, at the exact moment of the noise.

Hey thanks for the response dfrois. The front end noise is when travelling slowly-a few miles an hour over bigger more rounded speed bumps going straight and when the suspension compresses. The rear clunk happens quite randomly but mostly at regular driving speeds. It’s happened when going slowly and turning into a driveway with a bump and also at highway speeds with significant dips and even potholes. It seems like after the rear one happens initially it takes a while to make it happen again. Like something has bound up and the bump releases it. Hope that helps. Just don’t want to start throwing money randomly at parts and replacing a bunch that don’t need replacing.
Thanks again.

I had a similar noise in the front and it was one of the sway bar bushings. My mechanic replaced the sway bar which fixed the problem. No idea on the rear issue.

Well, the rear noise could be something loose on the trunk. Spare wheel not tightened? Or some of the tools flopping around? If it's something heavy, it will only make noise on fairly pronounced bumps - vertical speed is key here.

You could empty the trunk completely and see if the noise disappears...and perhaps check the tightening of the rear tops of the shock absorbers.

Thanks for the responses. nkx1 I’ve heard these are the weak points and I’ve actually got new ones on my bench. I hadn’t heard that same noise described previously but now you have it gives me more confidence that the bushings might be the issue. dfrois that was the first thing I thought when my father in-law owned the car. I went through it totally and made sure that wasn’t the case. It’s too random I think. Sometimes I hammer bumps with no sound, others it’s slow and hardly a bump at all. I replaced the rear shocks with Bilsteins a few months back. It seems like maybe the clunk happened less often but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
Cheers and thanks again.

Suspension noises (cont.)

Still have the front end parts on my bench. When I finally get them in I will update the post. In the meantime the rear clunk seems to be worsening. When I jack the car up the clunk happens two or three times from the time the weight comes off the tire/wheel/suspension til it is up where I need to have it to get under the car. Any other thoughts before I give in and take it to a shop?
