Wheels
Fellow w209 owners:
I have an '04 Clk 320 that desparatley needs to lose the stock wheels.
I've seen some great looking wheels on some of the cars on this web site.
I'd like to get 19s...would they fit? or rub? or are 18s the more appropriate choice? I'm not going to mess with any suspension mods or anything...just wheels.
I'd also like to stay around 2 grand. Any thoughts.

Hey, on other w209's 19s look like they would fit but depending where you live it might not be the best choice due to flats or cracked rims etc...i have seen some beautiful 18 inch rim/tire packages on ebay. I cant guarantee they will meet the same standards as the big companies out there(HRE,CARLSSON,BRABUS,AMG etc) So does anyone have any experience with these ebay wheels?
There is one model that mimicks the lorinser brand that has a very sharp turbine look (also avail in 19s) i would really suggest those!
If you cant find the right set of rims i would really suggest the 17" wheels in the appearance package (if you dont have them equipped) i have them and think they look really great and being 17" you wont have as many problems with cracked rims and flat tires that 18's and 19's are common for (at least here in NY)
Good luck on the rims...and keep us updated!

In FL, the roads are generally in good shape, so flats aren't a major concern.
I also want to know how "fat" the wheels/tire can be.
The '05 "standard" wheel was the optional sport wheel on the '04. I don't want the same wheel that is now the standard...plus I think it's the same wheel they put on the c class.
ebay may be a good call, however, I'm a bit skeptical.
I like the brabus mono VIs

im not sure about going to ebay cuz i had many friends that buy things like bodykits, and wheels and they dont look like the ones in the picture when they receive the item. But maybe you can buy from ebayers with high ratings, that way there is less of a chance of being scammed.
With the wheels situation, im not sure if you can put on 19s. 18s would look really nice. I just put on 19s for my car and they fit perfectly..but thats cuz I havent lowered it (still waiting for coilovers) hehe. But they should fit well with no rubbing issues. You should try places like tirerack and see if 19s can fit under your car.

$2k isn't going to buy you anything fancy - the typical nice multi piece wheels that you see around here cost significantly more than that (2-4X) new. A good place to start looking is probably Tire Rack because they have alot of wheels in your price range, show the appropriate sized tire for a given wheel, etc. I'd be leery about buying off ebay.

for 2k u better go with 18s if you want something decent. 19s forget anything nice for 2k. btw, are you looking for tires and wheels under 2k? or just wheels?

I agree with the rest of the guys. For 2k you won't be able to get "Nice" rims and tires. Check your PM. I went into further detail.

2k just for the wheels; i figure 500 bucks a wheel s/b enough, given the car is leased...I'll need to replace the tires before I give the car back, so it's going to cost me either way. the problem is, if I don't get another clk, I don't want to be stuck w/ 3 or 4 thousand dollar wheels....although it may be more of a reason to get a 500 or 55 cab.

New wheels
Just ordered 19 inch Moda R6 wheels from the tire rack:
Fronts 19x8 w/ goodyear f1gs-d3 235-35-19
back 19x9 -265-30-19
should have them next week...the 19s should look pretty insane.

new wheels - warranty
Anything need to be done to the car when I remove the stock 16s and put on the 19s? i.e. stabiity control, brakes, etc. Also, does changing the wheels void the MB warranty?

As long as the offsets are right and there are no issues clearing the calipers, you shouldn't have to do anything. Changing the wheels won't void your entire warranty, but you won't get free tire balancing and rotation during service visits or anything else directly associated with the wheels.

19's are nice..but you want to talk about a women...
being High maintenance...wait until u get your 19's....I have Chrome 19X8.5 fronts and 19X9.5 rear...I try and whip the dirt of every other day on the rims b/c if u got nice rims...it don't look good when they're dirty. I drive extreamly careful...(unless party on the weekends)...and yet I had to fix my rims 4 times already!...and replaced 1 of them. If I had to do it again...I wouldn't have lowered my car and just got 1 size higher...b/c I just test drove the BMW 6 series with stock 19's on with the tire size higher then mine...and it drives very smoothly, didn't even feel like 19's!
