09 CLk 550 purchase, quick question

Hey folks,

This forum is helpful! I may be purchasing a 09 CLk 550 with 43k miles. Could someone please help me by letting me know if it is one affected by the potential transmission issue? The vin is:

thanks in advance

What trans issue are you talking about? They are pretty solid unit. I would be more worried about making sure the top works. Also, the transmission should be serviced to ensure longevity.

I was reading and thought there was a trans issue possibly but I may be wrong 😂 yes the top works. Thanks for the info. I’m excited about it.

Some 722.9 transmissions (maybe many) have a rough 1-2 and 2-3 shift. There is some discussion about what the cause is. One hypothesized cause is a deficient solenoid (torque converter solenoid I believe?). The issue is most prominent when cold and largely disappears when warm, but is still there slightly. Mine is affected by such an issue. No mechanic I've taken it to truly knows the cause and can't properly diagnose it without disassembling the trans. But I've had the car for about 25K miles, and it hasn't gotten any better or worse, so I just live with it. The conductor plate electronics are also a weak point, which will require repair if they break (the car goes into limp mode). From my reading, the conductor plate issue is likely at some point, but may not occur until well past 100K miles. Those are the main transmission issues I know of. If you're trying to research the timing gear / balance shaft issue for the engine, that affected the M273 (550) engine through sometime in model year 2007. You can research and check for the issue here: https://www.mercedesmedic.com/check-...y-vin-m272273/. But that wouldn't affect a 2009 model, so you're safe there.

Thank you. I really appreciate your insight. It is a convertible and I was wondering if there is any sort of maintenance or tips to extend the life of the top and mechanisms associated with opening and closing.

thanks again. Y’all are very helpful!

Enjoy your CLK550.
My previous car was an 09 CLK550.
had for 5 years and put 80K miles from 23K, and was near flawless. Only major expense looming was the seam in the top started coming unglued.
However it was my DD.

needed the normal maintenance that comes with mileage as expected.
Congrats there are many things i miss about that car over my newer E550 Cab.

Let us see some pictures.

Derzinc,

Curious and not trying to pry, but what are they asking for the CLK. I bought mine 8 years ago with 17k miles for $28k, star marked. I now have 40k miles and thinking about selling. It perfect in every respect.

zill.
