Data point: 2009 CLK550 Aux cord / 30-pin Ipod configuration
Have an '09 CLK with the Audio 20 radio, CD changer, and the old 30-pin connector in the glovebox. Wanted to swap it out for a 3.5 mm female aux input cord, so I bought a 210 440 50 05 64 aux cord from AutohausAZ. Looked through WIS to find the instructions for installation, which lists a crazy sequence of disassembly (glovebox, CD changer, radio, etc etc. I did a search on Youtube and found someone with an '07 CLK350 who was doing the same thing but discovered that A) when the 30 pin Ipod adapter was installed, all they did was move aside the _already installed_ 3.5 mm input, and B) the 3.5 mm input was still plugged into the radio and still worked. Sure enough, upon opening the right end cap off the dash, the original aux connector was tucked up in the dash. Swapped it back into the hole in the glovebox, works perfectly. Saved me a bunch of hassle.
Now to return the aux cord....

I went with the Mr 12 Volt Bluetooth adapter. https://www.mr12volt.com/collections.../p600-lp1603mb (I have no affiliation, just providing the link in case anyone's interested).
It installs in place of the CD changer and it works great for streaming music and making/receiving calls while in CD mode (you just go to CD mode on the head unit to activate bluetooth). The major drawback is that you must be in CD mode to make and receive calls. If you're listening to the radio (like FM), you can't make or receive calls via Bluetooth, and I'll have to call the person back if I get a call. This is how it is on the Harmon Kardon system; not sure if it may work better on the standard audio system. All in all, though, it's the best solution I found.
