Crank Sensor Keeps Burning Out

I have a 2008 CLK Cabriolet. The car has only 41000 miles on it and it is basically a new car. I have owned it for about 18 months and have had to replace 4 crank sensors. They only last about 500-600 miles and they burn out and the check engine light comes on. I am taking it back to the mechanic today. Anything that any one can tell me of their experience in having and taking care of this problem would be helpful at this point. It is the only issue with the entire car.

Hi, I have the same CLK, I changed mine 3 time plus the Magnets, before I let a shop do it ( I thought I might be doing something wrong). To find out I had bought the cheaper ones and the shop put in Bosch parts (Camshaft Sensors and Magnets), that was 14 months ago. I have no problemes.

Thanks... I have had a shop trying to take care of it. One told me they put in a Mercedes Part and it went bad so they replaced it. When it happened again I went to another European Specialist shop and they told me the other shop had put in a Chinese part, not a Mercedes part so they did that and it still failed after 568 miles. I took it back to them yesterday. I had a ML500 with the same problem. I had it replaced once and it never happened again. It's driving me crazy wasting all this money.
