2005 clk500 crank position sensor

My clk500 has begun to have hard starts, just cranks over. It sometimes doesn't start when hot. Code says crank position sensor. I bought a new bosch unit but having trouble taking the old one out. I've got the intake off along with the maf and lower elbow. On you tube shows the sensor on the drivers side, I can see only one sensor next to the engine/bell housing and I cannot get the connector off! Is there a special tool, I have the E8 socket and everything else but really the connector seems to go sideways instead of up and down. are there different sensors or am I in the wrong place?

checked out another video and found the sensor, its directly below the fuel rail and fuel lines with almost 0 access. Can't believe its so tight, I cannot get my hands in the area.
