A/C COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT QUESTION HELP...
We have a 2007 CLK 550 Cabriolet.... my wife really likes the car... I do not drive it a lot but I like it too.
We have a very good indy MB repair facility...not a dealer. The air was not as cold as normal. We had them look at it. They said the compressor was leaking refrigerator and would need to be replaced. It is a 2007 with about 67K miles so that is not surprising really.
What did surprise me was the estimate cost. Our quote from this Independent shop that we trust a lot is $2900. Man, that seems very high ... even for a Mercedes. Maybe it is the V8 and a lot of work to get to stuff...I don't know.
Anyway... any feedback??? Anybody had this done?? Cost??? I am shocked at the estimate. This just happened and I am deciding what to do. Could anybody help with advice?? Thank you.
UPDATE.... After more investigation I found out why the cost was high. The indy tech says they figured worst case scenario where they included things like belt and idler pulley and other things that might or probably need changing while they were there with it taken apart. If all the bad scenario stuff was ok then compressor and dryer and labor and tax and everything will be about $2k... which seems a little high still...but it has a MB emblem on it...so there is that.
