No PRND on dash and shifter stuck

So i made the horrible mistake of buying one of these clk’s at 18… my problems start on a fine sunday evening where I wanted a new car so I Waddled my way down to Wolverhampton for this stunning clk w209 2.2 cdi AMG edition
though wow what an animal lol I was hooked!, been told by seller that sometimes it doesnt like going into reverse untill you cycle the ignition then worked fine
I didnt pay much attention as my knees were still shaking from how powerful it was as my first car was a 76 hp POLO…
drove it home, insured it and problem went away and I was buzzing , drove it around then SHTF.. welded itself in park and was showing P and C on dash i left it alone and after work checked it and it worked just fine so i assumed thats it and kept driving only for it to get worse and worse, kept limping everywhere and i decided to do what some man on YouTube told me took shifter apart and put the AGS pcb in the oven then the car worked i drove it for 3 days with 0 issues and was amazing
till it did it again.. and I thought nothing of it ill just resoulder the connectors which i did ended up not working and threw it away got it replaced yesterday night with a different shifter assembly altogether
car didnt go into gear and same issue untill i pushed the button on the shifter to just make it drive in first gear and reverse so i went backwards and forwards for abit then my dash started to show P and C then the car worked i was buzzing took it on a drive it drove great,stopped engine, reversed and then ignition off and on tried to make it fail but it didnt so i hopped in today to set off for work and when i got in the car same thing happened stuck in park and no gears showing on dash.. so i did the trick back and forward still nothing so i had to limp it home gor a good 10 miles in first gear.. so tomorrow i wanted to set off and just buy a new gearbox altogether and have it sorted
but what else is there to do thats cheaper than a new gearbox?? Plus i have no idea how this works if ill have to get it re programmed or anything..
i am inches away from setting it on fire guys so please shine some light on this…
