Convertible top question

Hi, I asked about this once before but never got a response, why is it that when I open and close my top it often takes several pulls of the button. In other words, it will start and stop, then I will release the button and pull (or push) it to make the top move some more. Sometimes it can take four or five pulls. Sometimes it will work as it should. Eventually it will fully open, or close.
Does anyone have answer for this?

Thanks

I just purchased a 2004 CLK 320 and have a similar experience. I checked my convertible top hydraulic fluid and it is very low. I am waiting for fluid to arrive so I can top it off and see if that resolves the problem.

I would also check your switch function as well. My convertible top switch works but some of my other switches need a bit of persuading. My drivers side window switch sometimes won't go up automatically but the passenger side always does. I also need to fiddle with the washer switch to get it to spray. These switches are good but after almost 20 years they have a bit of wear.

My top is separating from one of the seams so I don’t even risk opening it.

My top did that in 24. Had a upholstery shop check it. said that .the stitching was dryrotting. They said about $4500 to remove restitch and put back on. Found one at GAHH.com cost $1200 with shipping, took it to a local Upholstery shop cost $1200 if I paid cash, which I did, $1400 if paid by card. If the Upholstery shop got the top it would have been $2700. Now this was just outer top, not the inside liner. I was scared the split would leak and stain the inside liner. After getting it changed out found out only clean it with Ragtop Canvans cleaner or just brush it with a horse hair brush and water, not any other kind of soap, that is what makes the stitching dryrot.
