Harris or Frisco...

Or anyone else that might know, could you tell me if the K8 bumper is fiberglass or polyurethane? Also, whats the rate to paint and install an aftermarket bumper? Is $600 about right? Thanks.

It's polyurethane - paint and install rates vary significantly. I got quotes between a couple hundred dollars and a couple thousand.

thanks Frisco...were there any problems with the finish? The shop Im talking to says poly-u is a pain and could chip easily. Most likely, they would sand and primer twice.

There are a couple minor imperfections in the job - I don't know how much of it is due to the prep or the material. It also does already have a couple chips, but I also had chips in thr original bumper a couple weeks after I got the car. I'm probably going to get it coated with the 3M clear bra pretty soon to prevent any more.

VERY few bodyshops can really do a good job on Poly-U kits. But I also have to say Poly-U kits require A LOT of prep works as they (espec. Brabus kits) never come perfect.

Sand and primer twice???? Multiply by 2 at least!!!!

Prime & Sand

Harris is exactly correct. The new PUR bumpers require twice the prep than the old ones.

2 times - looks like crap
3 times - OK w/ imperfections
4 times - Quite Nice
5 times - don't know!! too much work & $$$

Answer your Private Message box. It seems to be full and will not except anymore messages. Did you install your Pulley kit yet? If so, have you noticed anything performance wise??

Jay500,

The fit/finish looks pretty good on your Brabus front. How much was the installation for you?

Also, what is the best deal I can get on an authentic Brabus front with quad headlights?

Thanks...

Installation

Touchy subject for me, but I had the front and back Brabus bumpers fitted, sanded & painted 4 times, and the light kit installed for about $2300. It does look flawless now, but it takes time & $$$ to do it right.

I have read people have done these steps for $600 to $1000 and that scares me. I guess it all depends what looks good to them. With black there is only one choice and that is Perfection or you will see every flaw possible.

All my parts come from Harris, he is the Brabus connection!!

Replied Tommy

Wow four step process, thats a lot of repainting. It totally depends on the bodyshop. I think my kit was sanded, primered, and only painted a couple of time, along with a clearcoat buff and wax. It looks great, I paid about $1000 for the install and paint.

For some reason, i think the pricing in the west cost is very low do to lots of competition. Most places you see will say "Ill match anyones price as long as you can prove it" As far as custom bodyshops, I would only go to shop that you have personally seen the work done and decide for yourself. Hope this helps.

Jay - Sorry I just deleted all of the messages. I still have it just sitting on my dresser and am waiting until I get my next service done, which is coming up by the end of the year. I honestly don't even know why I am waiting, because my car is mod'd enough that the service guy is going to give me a hard time either way. I'm close to doing the Kleemann chip as well and will let you know when I get it all done.
