Tonneau cover won’t open.

My 2003 (A209) convertible roof was working fine.
Then a couple of times when I was parked on a slope, the roof wouldn’t shut.
Got car on a flat surface and all ok again.
A few months later I got the ski bag warning issue. I have bought two replacement struts for the ski bag cover, from FCP Euro, installed them and now have no warning message.
Issue now is that when I try to open the roof this happens:
All windows lower,
Tonneau cover does absolutely nothing.
Front section above windscreen detaches.
Message in dash says “top in operation”.
I have a fully charged battery
Plenty of fluid in reservoir
Fuses all ok.
What is likely to be the cause of the tonneau cover not lifting, followed by the bow section?
I have disconnected the battery, for a few days, and my iCarsoft scanner is showing no fault codes in the roof.
I am trying to avoid a manual opening/closing of the roof, if possible. But do wonder if I should try that incase I have somehow got some switches out of sync, with trying to open and close roof previously.
Any suggestions as to what I should do/try.
Cheers,
Graeme
