CLK 320 Windows, Seat Adjustments, x30/7 CAN connection issue
I took it to a Mercedes specialist for a diagnostic, which cost me $267 for an hour. The shop told me the x30/7 CAN (bus) connector isn’t operating, which is apparently why all these systems are down.
When I got home, I decided to dig in myself. I pulled up the covers/mats on the passenger side and found water pooled underneath. On closer inspection of the CAN connector, I discovered a few wires were fried—definitely not what you want to see.
Has anyone dealt with this before? I’m guessing water intrusion is the root cause, but I’m not sure if it’s coming from a clogged sunroof drain, windshield seal, or something else. I’d appreciate advice on:
- The best way to track down and fix the water leak.
- Whether repairing/replacing the fried wires at the CAN connector is a DIY job or if I should just bite the bullet and have a shop do it.
- Any tips for drying out the car and preventing future water issues.
- If there’s a good way to test the rest of the CAN system for further damage before I start replacing parts.
