long time stalker on here. Recently got myself a CLK55 as a bit of a project.
I recently got a retrimmed steering wheel, on the face of it, it appeared to be a direct replacement but it’s actually from a CLS. Therefore the wiring inside is different.
can someone offer some advice please? I am thinking ordering a CLS clock spring will work? If so, does anyone know the correct item number?
Unfortunately this wont be entirely straight forward. Your previous steering wheel being pre 05 used a different style of paddle connection which is accepted into your clockspring. The new wheel uses a small module whereby the clockspring lead goes into this module and a tail lead goes out into the airbag. The CLS clockspring wont slip over your column as the harness connector that sits on the column is a slightly different shape to vehicles from 04 onwards. The only way to use in essence a facelift column (CLS Clockspring) would be to rewire the pin layout using a new pin. You can buy a repair harness from mercedes with the end connector (Check W211 section for fitting a facelift wheel) The issue is the CLK has different wiring colours so you would need to reference the WIS manuals to identify which colours go to which.
Granted your CLK55 has paddles from default i am sure the new paddles would work with a new clock spring if you can get the new clockspring wired up. I asked a similar question in using facelift paddles and activating paddles on a prefacelift but its been a bit of a dead end study.
