2007 CLK280 AMG Brake Caliper Upgrade

Hi Guys and happy Friday from down under, sunny Australia.
I have a CLK280 pictured here that is in excellent condition. As an engineer, I maintain my own cars so its serviced, checked and rechecked regularly and runs beautifully, save for the transmission which runs at its best when warmed up. Its a fine old Mercedes at 18-years of age.
I recently changed my brake rotors and pads to ATE / ATE ceramic - no issues there. I'm running 19" wheels which is the only change from stock thus far. I'd like to explore options for fitting AMG brake calipers all round and looking for any knowledge as to what AMG model calipers will bolt up. I've read CLK63 fronts and SLK55 R171 rears will fit however, could not find that thread among the 000's on this forum.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks & cheers

Henrick, I'm also in Australia (Syd) and have a 2007 CLK350. Sorry I don't have answers to your calipers query, but I was wondering about your wheels. Are these Bola CSRs? I was thinking of a similar upgrade (but 18" as befits an old bloke like me) and the Bola wheels looked attractive. Could you advise as to where you got them etc.? Thanks.

Hi Greg, thanks for your reply. Now how old is old :-). I’m a 1967 model and those 19” wheels are surprisingly comfortable. It’s a personal choice and the rubber you use will influence your ride dramatically.

I opted for a multi spoke, mono-block forged rim for strength and I’ve tested them on a great number of pot holes this winter. No issues at all. The wheel is HRE P104SC. 19x9.5, 19x8.5. Now before you look at the USD and price of those wheels (they’re worth more than our cars together), I had these wheels engineered and made up for the CLK. This included for 12mm bolts and radius bolt cups, to suit OEM specs. After market wheels are generic and both 18’s and 19’s are usually drilled for 14mm bolts and tapered bolt heads. One size fits all. I also had my wheel bolts made up by Honishen.

Happy to assist and give you some contacts. Forged = strength. Cast is also fine. It comes down to budget.

Cheers

Henrick, "Old" is the mid 50's model typing this - above is my 2007 CLK350. I too do all my own mechanical work. Have had the CLK for almost 8 years now and have done lots of servicing / maintenance / repair to most of the common foibles. Soon to do replacement of front control arms as one ball joint rubber is weeping. Over the years I've had quite a lot of cars, but the CLK is the best drivers car of the lot, and mostly pretty good to work on (easy to say when I'm not actually trying to feed my hands in somewhere when upside down or something). Not sure if I'll proceed with the wheel upgrade, but who knows? Good luck with the calipers.

Hi Greg,

The CLK looks great. I like that colour too. A set of 19" would look very good indeed! Given your model, I'd retain the original wheels. I'll also be looking at replacing bushings, engine mounts etc soon. There's no issues yet, more a preventative maintenance approach (and I need to fiddle). The fuel pump is also meant to be replaced according to spec and I have a new one of those just waiting also. My thermostat also failed recently - stayed open and the engine could not reach operating temp. Now that was a simple replacement.

Not sure if you have a factory diagnostic tool but if you're ever stuck and need a part number or code search on Xentry, drop me a private message.

Cheers

PS: I'm buying all new CLK63 (non black series) calipers for the car. Bolt in with no mods.
