Clinks, clanks when driving over bumps and sometimes stopping - Suspension - Wheels
I've owned my '09 550 since new. Around 80k now. Have been annoyed by these noises for many years and could never get them to stop no matter what I replaced or lubed on the suspension. Then a couple weeks ago the wheel shop that welds cracks in the front wheels (Houston potholes) refused to repair again as too many. So I replaced the wheels with after-market from Discount Tire. They actually got them from Tirerack. All those noises went away. The stock wheels or maybe just one must have had enough wear in some place, maybe at the axle hub that caused movement and knocking. Maybe my imagination but drives so much better and looks better too. Bought the MSW Type 31 18 X8.5 5-112.00 35 BKGLXX for the rear PN W19412500TGB and the 18 X7.5 5-112.00 33 BKGLXX for the front PN W19410500TGB in gloss black. No issues with the slight difference in offset. Cost ~$1000 installed. Needs a hub centric ring for each to compensate for the hub diameters. At 1st they used plastic and the wheels started wobbling at 50+ mph. They replaced with aluminum and all's great.
