I realize this is not CLK news but it fits between CLK and CL...

I don't really understand???? So you're saying that Mercedes-Benz is/maybe coming out with a brand new coupe to compete with the BMW 6-series? Do you have any more information???? Thanx!!!

I too have read this... There was a sneak preview in the UK magazine "Autocar" about 3 weeks ago. It had an artists impression also.
They said the car will be sold as the e-class coupe. (perhaps the the e-class sporting coupe ???). Its a full 4 door car but the rear doors are "hidden" to make it look more like a coupe - because of course it cannot actually be a coupe with 4 doors! The price was said to be about £50000, which in the UK makes it cheaper than a CL but more expensive than all CLKs other than the AMG55. I think it said it is due to be launched late next year...
Might sound silly but I bet people dismissed the c-class sporting coupe when it was first heard of ! After all why would mercedes need 2 coupes both built on a c-class platform !

COUPE is 2-door, however, I believe they are calling is a coupe because of the hidden suicide doors. They will open from the inside and therefore will not reveal another handle. This is similar to the new Mazda RX-7 (Now RX-8) which will also have the hidden suicide doors for easier access to the front seats. Sounds great to me- I'd love a larger coupe that won't cost me $100k +.

Sorry about the confusion on the price. The estimate of £50000 is the price in the car in UK in pounds. Don't foget that we pay inflated prices in the UK for our cars so you might be better looking for a relative price to other MB models rather than trying to convert the price straight into $.
Given a that the UK price for a current CL500 is £66400 and a new 209 CLK500 will be £43000. This means the new E-Class coupe will cost 86% of the price of a CL500 and 133% of the price of the new 209 CLK500. With this info you should be able to get a better price estimate for the US.
The pictures / artists impression showed the car looking very much like the new E-Class with perhaps a more rakish stance and rear doors with no (or hidden) handles - much like the rear doors of an Alpha Romeo 147 or 156.

In Germany there are also rumors about that "coupé" with 4 doors,
2 for front-seats and additional 2 for the rear-seats...
As you can (hardly) see, there are some lineation at the rearseat postion:

cool..the artists impression actually looks better than the new CLK. and it even has those SL grills on the side(if not mistaken).
will this car include the 55kompressor engine to compete with the M6 (?) when that comes out?
So far, this looks much better than the CLK imo, i hope mB give it a go.
