How to lower the temperature of the engine

I would like to drop the engine temp(currently at 100C) to about 80C.
Any ideas?

Question Just a couple ideas anyway...

First off, I got your PM, and I'll reply soon. I'm still not 100% sure about what to do, and unfortunately, cash is mega-tight right now

Anyway, I was thinking that you might want to add some "Water wetter", which is a coolant additive that supposedly lowers coolant temperature a fair bit, probably 15 degrees or so. I believe Redline makes some, but I'll check into into it.

What about a lower thermostat? If I'm not mistaken, we already have the lower temp 80 degree thermostat, so that may be a bust...

I also saw a small product review about this type of powder coating that is supposed to increase thermal conductivity, which helps lower temperature. Supposedly it can be applied to just about any surface, like the radiator**, intake manifold, and really just about anywhere. I can't recall who makes it, and in truth I'm not really familiar with it, but I'll try to find out more about it. At least it's food for thought for now. Note that I believe that it's something like a zinc phosphate coating, but again, I'm not sure.

Speaking of engine temperature, did you notice any increase when you added your pulleys? Part of my hesitation with pulleys has been my concerns with underdriving the water pump, and the potential for additional engine temps.

Anyway, I'll check back with more info soon!

Best regards,
Matt

** I have to wonder though, that by coating the radiator might narrow the gaps between the radiators cooling fins which might restrict airflow, negating any benefit. I guess it depends in how thick the coating is and how effective it is...

Thumbs up Well, here's a link for the water wetter anyway...

http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp

According to Redline, which I'm sure you know makes excellent stuff, their water wetter reduces engine temperature by as much as 30 degrees! Even if you only get half of that, you're most of the way there already!

What's the normal operating range (Temperature wise) for the CLK55?

Best regards,
Matt

Lightbulb This isn't who I was thinking of specifically, but the concecpt is the same...

Note in particular the "Thermal Dispersant Coating (TLTD)"...

Man, my thing goes up to 100C. I need to do something about that. But it was like that before pully and we don't have 80 thermos. Instead AMG has 90 thermos, and it reaches 100C when driven a bit agressively. Take a look at yours durring city driving it will be around 100C. Redlind oil doesn't work, at least that's my opinion.
