What is the current "Street" price for an 02 cabrio 55?

I've got a pretty good line on an 02 cabrio 55. Been thinking about getting back into one of these and with the fact that only 800 were ever sold here in the US I figure it's got to hold it's value better than the coupe. I think street on a 02 coupe is around $35-$37 now, right? The Cabrio I am tlaking about is not designo and is one of the more popular colors. Has around 20,000 miles. Is it worth $40K?

I'm seeing prices all over the map for the coupes...everything from high 20s to upper 40s depending on mileage and location. There are some members here recently that paid under $30K for a coupe with around 45-50K miles. Most seem to be in decent shape.

A cabrio should always hold more value (except in the instance of the Gullwings)...I think the sticker on the W208 CLK55 was around $82K new. With just 20K miles, it would be tempting to scoop up that cabrio for $40K.

Have you driven a W208 cabrio yet?

Haven't driven a cabrio 55 but a friend has the 430 cab. I know there are some body flex issues (seem minimal enough to me) and it's slightly heavier but figured the limited availabliity might make it worth the risk. Since it's a late 2002, it's also still got some time on the warranty meter left (in service on 11/02). Figured I'd hang onto about a year and then decide before the waarnty expiration if I wanted to keep it any longer. This worked out pretty good the last time I tried it with the coupe (although it did take almost three months to finally sell it in the end). There's even a possibility that I can pick this one up for even less than that $40K mark. Convincing the wife that I need a 3rd car is probably going to be the toughest part. If it's a no go, I'll point the forum to the seller so that someone else can benefit from the discovery (Then you guys may learn my secrets of how to get these things at lower-than-market prices though...)

You've got three days this weekend....I anticipate long conversations about a particular cabriolet. Good luck!

I'd say go for it - but then I might not be really objective!

After a long discussion with my wife over the weekedn, we set a limit of $36K for this "toy. However, bidding has now exceeded that figure so I thought I would share the details with the forum in the event anyone here is interested. The site is Bid4assessts.com and they liquidate drug-seized property. The current bid is $38,500 and is probably about as high as it's going to get. If anyone here is interested, it could be a GREAT buy. The inspection period is over and I id not attend it so the only information you have is what you see on the site. Do not use ANY of my information in making a bid (warranty dates, etc) as all I have is a few emails and no official documentation on the actual vehicle. The site DOES require a specific payment procedure and there is significant paperwork that you would need to do but if you want a bargain... This may be a great way to do it. PS - I DO know of one guy that does NOTHING but buy cars like this from these sites and resells them to the public. He makes a LOT of money doing this and said that he would resell this in the open market for about $50K so at today's current level it appears that there is still $12K of profit for guys like him should he end up being the winning bidder. I'd (and he) would rather see a true enthusiat own it so bid if you are so inclined. I'm also going to re-post this into a new thread so that it gets the attention it deserves as others shopping may not dig into this thread for this info.
