So your saying the more displacement the deeper throatier the exhaust note?
If that's the case then what happened to the Mercedes V12 or better yet the Bi-Turbo 12's they all sound like VACUUM cleaners

The F/I V12 and N/A V12 motor is not a M113 motor my friend! I hope that was a joke!

I know the V12's aren't M113 motors, I was just going purely off the other guys Bigger displacement theory creating deeper throatier sound

I also know from experience w/01 Ford F-250 V-10, thing souded like a high pitched Indy car when I punched it... So how does the bigger displacement theory apply here?

If you have two different calliper guns, one a .38 cal and one a .45 cal but the same gun.Don't you think they will sound a little different when fired? The .45 will be more poweful and alil louder.

PS Calliper and displacement have to do with the measurement or size of something.Would everyone agree?

Are we talking about brakes? "Calipers?" or Guns "Caliber"...Sorry I couldn't resist..
And still comparing larger ingines using your gun analogy, the V-10's V-12's should be louder more powerfull sounding ..But there not

oops LOL Sorry what a disaster. A typo of course. The main reason why the MB V12 F/I motor sounds quieter is because of the turbo's being in the exhaust path.

First of all, as CoolCarl pointed out, the turbos both muffle the exhaust and make their own noise as well. Secondly, the 65 series 6980 cc V12's, despite being 6 liters, actually have less displacement per cylinder (498 cc's vs 679 cc's) than the 5439 cc V8. Thirdly, having twelve cylinders, the 65 series cars have six power strokes per crankshaft revolution versus the 5.5's four. Smaller pistons firing at a higher frequency will create a higher pitched sound.

Also, as far as the Ford V10 sounding different, you're talking about a completely different motor. More cylinders, different firing order, exhaust system etc. I guarentee you that if you either bored out or stroked that same engine you would get a deeper exhaust note, albeit slightly, as I have always said.

Just ask yourself this... Do you really believe that the a larger cylinder which allows in more fuel and air will have NO effect on exhaust noise??

Best regards,
Matt
