2003 CLK55 AMG Transmission/Driveshaft Heavy-duty?
The driveshafts on these models are 4" diameter.
(I realize that the up/down gear shifting is activated via steering wheel switches, and that the gears shift faster in the 2003 models.)
QUESTION:
Will the 2003 CLK55 AMG transmissions and driveshafts be the same heavy-duty?

Yes, the transmission on it is amazing. It shifts smoother and the electronics factor is very noticeable!
I think the transmission ( clutches and fly's) are controlled electronically ) drive by wire or something like that.
This was done for the 2001 & 2002 CLK55 AMG models (not the CLK 320 & 430 models), by using the transmissions from the S 600 V12, and providing the AMGs with a 4" diameter driveshaft.
The 2001-2 CLK55 AMG transmissions are heavy duty and the same as used in the S 600.
The driveshafts on these models are 4" diameter.

Yes Karl, very good news for you! The transmission in the 2003 CLK55 will come from Maybach. The driveshaft will be at least 8" in diameter!
