New CLK55 AMG Cabrio "BURNT" 8 Hours in Suspension Shop
"well nearly".
For anyone thinking of lowering their CLK55 AMG here is some info. We used the Bradus Lowering Sports springs. The difference in the front springs is this, the Bradus springs are made of cold rolled metal the same as the AMG springs, the baradus front springs are the same height & width as AMG springs but are made out of 14mm steel whereas the AMG springs are 14.5mm. They have the same amount of coils, but the distance between the spacing of the Bradus coils is a little larger. On installation the front droped down 5mm and will settle another 3-4mm in the next week or so.
The rear spring again are the same, 14mm for Bradus & 14.5 for AMG, this time the coil spacing is the same but the Bradus rear springs are about a quarter coil shorter, this gave us a drop of 22mm and this again will drop another 3-5mm in the next couple of weeks.
Running 19" wheels we have no rubbing.
The drop in suspension relates to one of your fingers fitting between the gaurd and the tyre and this will disappear in the next couple of weeks to the gaurd being level with the tyre.
The AMG shocks do not need to be changed and the front bump pads do not need changing either. The ride is only a little harsher but some people may not notice this but there is less body roll as the car now sets a little lower and is more responsive in cornering. The better cornering comes from the more noticable camber on the back wheels (a bit like dumping a couple bags of conrete in the boot). Also take off is improved as there is now less travel in the rear end under power.
I will take some more photos in the next couple of days.
Robertus
Thanks for the info. I wonder if 10" wide rears would have fit?
*edit*
Did you mean "Brabus" or really "Bradus"? Cuz I can't find a "Bradus" springs on the 'net.
