Mercedes
The problem here is that you are comparing the 03-04 coupe to the 05 cabriolet. The cabriolet is heavier because it has that convertible top which reduces body rigidity and they have to compensate for it, adding weight. Convertibles always weigh more than their coupe counterparts.

And if you didnt know, AMG trannys have are one of the fastest shifting auto trannys on the market. HP #'s arent always everything, look at BMW's, most all of them have very aggressive gearing when compared to other cars. Even when they have less HP it could still be a faster car. Look at the 225hp 330, matched up to a G35 280 hp, its a drivers race even though the BMW is underpowered.
I don't think a 7 speed CLK500 would worry my 5 speed auto since I'm supercharged.
Your right about BMW, but their cars rev much higher than MB's. Some M3 guys are running 4.10 gears but they are using cams and software so their new redline is at 9200rpm. CRAZY.

What are the 1/4 mile times of the new E500's?If it's still in the 14sec bracket it would still have a hard time against a CLK55 or W210 E55. A good driver might be able to get the E500 into the high 13's but driven properly I see the CLK55 beating a new E500 cleanly in the 1/4 without the E500 being closeregardless of it having a 7spd transmission. What is the gearing in the 7spd tranny by the way? https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ght=1%2F4+mile

Only AMG vehicle with the new 7 speed tranny is 06 SLK 55 AMG as of today.

I dont think any none-AMG MB other than S600, SL600 and CL600, is comperable to any >2003 AMG vehicle except G55 AMG.
