No. Just plug it in and your car will recognize the iPod and whatever playlists plus your library. The iPod controls are disabled, and the steering wheel controls are the only ones that will work to control the iPod.

first off thanks for the quick response
i plugged it in and i can tell what songs are in my library through the radio controls in the car but its either not playing them or the sound is not going through.
any ideas?

Hmmm. Does your display show 'iPod>'? This would indicate that the iPod is connected, recognized and that 'AUX' is activated.
Are you just using the dock connector? You're not somehow using both the headphone output and dock connector at the same time?
My only other guess is that the installation was done incorrectly.

its ok i got it to work
my ipod nano just needed the latest software upgrade. Without it i could see the songs and Ipod in the display but could not hear any audio.
