It sounds terrific, Chappy.

Bernd Schneider was not there Sunday (my designated track day). I learned later that Mika Hakkinen was driving a DTM taxi Monday for guests, but I didn't see him later at the Laureus Awards ceremony.
NYC32 and neilbo75 - thank you for the kind words.

Day 2 (Laureus Welcome Party):
Our invitation said the dress code was “****tail” and we had a chance to take a brief nap before changing for the Welcome Party. Again, Mercedes-Benz representatives had our transportation arranged and the shiny E-class with the “Laureus” stickers on the side slipped out of the driveway from the Hotel Arts. We headed to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. Many cars were arriving and we were waived through and delivered to the end of a very long red carpet…at least 125-150 yards! Press and onlookers lined most of the route and my wife and I just kept looking at each other…what a great time! I pretended we could hear the photographers whispering “Who’s that?”….”Oh,….nobody, never mind.” LOL….
The weather was perfect…high 60s and no humidity, so it was a nice stroll on the red carpet up to the entrance. We get to the steps and more cameras are popping. We flash our invitations and move inside where there are hundreds of people and dozens of wait staff serving more Cava (Spanish Champagne) and appetizers. We meet up with Brian and some of the others we had met at the bar the previous evening at the Arts. The wait staff is so attentive…you really would want for nothing!
By now, we’re on our fifth or sixth glass of Cava and they call us to move into the main hall. We make our way and select a table. There is seating for eight and most are taken with the new friends we met at the track and the evening before. Even Klaus Maier (we met at the CL Sneak Preview) took time to say hello to us and ask if we were enjoying ourselves! There is a constant parade of heavy hors douvres and Cava, not counting the open bars scattered around the hall. In all, about a thousand guests are in attendance. This party goes on for hours! After midnight, a DJ starts playing music and folks finally wander on to the dance floor after Teri Hatcher has a dance with her daughter. Nearby, race drivers are in abundance as are other celebrities…Boris Becker, Edwin Moses, Katarina Witt, and Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Guests thinned out as the night wore on and we decided to head back to the hotel. More press outside (even at this late hour) lined the carpet as we headed back down to the line of Mercedes-Benz cars lined up to take us away. Just a 15 minute ride back to the hotel gave us our second wind. Of course, we popped in to the bar, which was busy again with the “usual suspects”! We were wondering where one of the guests had been from the previous evening…turns out she was invited to dinner with His Majesty, the King of Spain. She filled us in on her evening. As usual, the time slipped past quickly…another 3am evening. We would have our choice of things to do the next day….
