Lowering W208
So I was wondering about the performance/quality of Koni's? (any comments?)
Finally at the shop I was notified that the stock shocks on the w208's have been superceeded by a new shock (any one in the know on this with more info welcome)- this is also an option but the new MB AMG shocks are considerably more expensive for a shock that might be soft compared to the springs.
Is there any matched sets of springs and shocks on the market?
Thanks for any and all Help.
I have lowered my 2001 CLK 55 with H&R springs as well. They are excellent in appearance and ride quality. Firm and level around hard corners and progressively smooth on freeway driving. Using a #2 pad in the front and #1 in the rear the car has a one finger gap from the fender to the tire. It is slightly closer in the front than the rear, which I like.
Be very careful in knowing the dips and level of entry ways around town. I quickly cracked my front bumper and had to replace it because the car is several inches lower and hits all low spots. Also, with four adults in the car you may bottom out at high speeds when you hit a high low gradation on the road.
As for shocks, original AMG shocks on our cars are the Bilstien Sports, which from other members comments appear to be stiffer than some of the Koni's. Unless you are going with coil-overs I would stick with the Bilstien Sports.
Good luck.

I am not sure on the pad #s I gave you. It may be I used #1 in front and #2 in rear so don't rely on those numbers if you are following my set-up. I wish I could find my notes reflecting what I used. Sorry and enjoy the mod.

I used AMG factory Euro springs and #2 ft, #1 rear spring pads to lower my car. Upgraded to 18" Monoblock II's as well. Perfect ride quality much improved over US spec springs. Plus you are using AMG factory items. No issues with fit, quality or camber.
