02' CLK550 AMG or CLK55 AMG??

02' CLK550 AMG or CLK55 AMG??
Just bought 02 CLK55 AMG Cabriolet - on driver's side trunk it states "CLK 550" on passenger side trunk "AMG". The engine, brakes and indash speedometer state AMG - as well as the leather "Designo" design. Why does car say CLK550 instead of CLK55? Did MB badge these cars both as CLK550and CLK55?

I had to laugh. I've witnessed several "different" examples lately. A V6 ML55 AMG I passed on the highway while I happened to be driving the wife's real ML55, a W220 S55 AMG made with ebay clamp on quad tips and replica wheels and a W221 S550 with an AMG emblem added to the right side and some large chrome wheels. More CBE.
I believe I saw a limited edition CLS 500 AMG for sale here in Ga. recently and a fake 500E that was on ebay.
Imitation, the sincerest form of flattery!
Since you have the other items and there was no "550" in 2002, I would question if the car is a rebadged CLK430, a real good clone, a wrecked car improperly badged during repairs or maybe the previous owner decided he like the 550 number better.
A carfax might answer the wreck question but not nec. as it only reports if insurance paid out on a reported accident or claim. Check the VIN to verify the model.

Thanks for you help. I think someone stuck a "0" at the end of "55" for whatever reason. I'm going to get it removed. I don't think its a fake because the title is clear, neither carfax nor autocheck indicate any accidents, it was a certified Mercedes pre-owned vehicle 15,000 miles ago and it definately has the AMG engine.
