autocross accident

This will make you think twice about getting that close parking spot at the autocross event. It's but I know you want to see.

Damn! thanx for posting, I read nearly that whole thread, after this and my friend (owns modded late model Mini) just ran a track event last weekend I believe, anyhow another guy in a brand new C6 Z06 w/his instructor missed a turn hit the tire barriers badly (picture showed it's pretty much totalled nearly every panel popped off) told me the owner was freaking out! Only had the Z06 for a week! and was screaming "What do I do now? how is Ins. covering this?" then ripped off the remaining 1/4 panel that was barely hanging by a thread, heaving it skyward!

Needless to say this has curbed my ambitions for ever running at an Auto-X event, not worth it, I'm not ready to gamble w/my C6!

That's why you go to a track event where there are concrete barriers, real safety measures, and less morons who think they "know how to drive". Those are the guys that have never been to a school and are THE most dangerous always

As a member of the BMW Club, I used to go to a driving school each year at Road America, WI. Every event, there'd be 3-4 cars wrecked. I saw a year old M3's rim disintegrate and the car fly into a wall and an E36 M3 spin off the track right in front of me. That's why I was driving my $3,000 '87 325is when I went to these things! Never track a car you can't afford to lose. Most insurance policies exclude competitive racing events -- which autocross and probably a driving school would be considered. You have to buy a special endorsement, assuming the insurance company would sell you one. Most people are just taking chances.

Wow.. I'm planning on taking some classes and participate in the Novice/Beginner class in some autox sessions this summer in my CLK55 (or BMW 335i).. I might rethink it since i don't think I can afford to lose either one yet...

Maybe I'll buy a Miata or something..
