Chappy I done a bad thing!!! sort of
My first Panerai “The Stephanie”
Sadly I had to go to Indianapolis on Wed to attend the memorial service for one of my oldest and dearest friends. After a prolonged 5 ˝ year battle with breast and then bone cancer she lost the fight. I used to ride my bike around in her driveway when I was eight. That was 37 years ago.
So with a couple hours on my hands I wanted to raise my spirits. So I went by the AD in Indy. I had never seen or even worn a Panerai and wanted to be sure I would like one before buying it. I walked in and went to the Panerai case. There I spoke to Vladimir. A very knowledgeable individual. As I look in the case I see a Titanium cased watch in the corner. I ask, “Is that a PAM 177 and can I see it?” “Yes it is.” He responds. Then asks, “Are you on Paneristi.com.” as he hands it to me. “Yes I am.” I respond. “ Well then you know what this is, I don’t need to say anything more.” Sure enough I turn it over and its marked 100M not 300M. As we have found out 133 of these have made it to the retail market.
I try it on and it fits perfectly. I put it back and tell him I need to think about it for a few moments. I think about the conversations I had with my friend over the last couple of years and months of her life. “Go for it!” she would say, “You never know what the next day may bring you.” So I bought it! I never planned on buying any watch that day. I was just going to try one on and see if I liked it.
A beautiful and rare watch to be sure. But not nearly as beautiful and unique as my friend. So from this day forward this watch will be known as “The Stephanie.”

Sorry about your loss!
Sorry that you lost your friend. I hope time will heal the pain. Panerai is a very good acquisition. I own a Breitling Navitimer & I love that. Enjoy your fine timepiece. - Vijil
