2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupé
So.... do you (or anyone else) know for sure if 235/40/18 will fit up front on a 208 CLK 55 sporting these 2 piece "Aero" rims?
Keep in mind the F1 Safety Car ran 225s.
I'm reviving this thread because, all of a sudden, I gots to know. I just bought a set of these rims from AlloyWheelsDirect.net in the UK. A new set at a good price (one wheel has some blemished lacquer on the inside). They seem to be a honest dealer, posting pictures of every wheel. Check out the inside shot of the blemished one, these wheels are something special!

I like the "BBS" and "AMG" cast onto the inside of these real deal wheels. For cast alloy AMG wheels, they are on the light side (about 13kg per wheel) but they are not the lightest way to upgrade a CLK with 18 inch AMG wheels. SFAIK the one piece 18 inch Style I for the R129 SL holds the title. But I just couldn't resist. I will strap on Michelin PS2s - the consensus choice.
So, if you're still out there, Holson, yes, I finally did it!
Now, let the installation adventure begin! The first part is easy - R129s and W208s have identical bolt patterns. And no spacers need apply. If I run into real trouble, the dealer said they would take them back - provided I work with 225/255. But can I up the ante to 235/265?

The rims finally arrive - in style!
So off they go to the installer (Steve at MBenzNL) ...
... who simply bolts them on - and they fit! We played it safe and went with TUV rated 225/40 and 255/35 tires. Michelin PS2s.
Steve tested them and said they rub just a touch at maximum wheel lock...
... but Neilbo has not yet noticed any rubbing, even when driving on the torture track that is NURBURGRING!

Neilbo,
Those look sweet!! Those wheels are some of the sexist I've ever seen for the W208s.
BTW, there is a photo in the most recent issue of F1 Racing Magazine (UK) - it shows a 1999 race when the race finished behind the Safety Car, which was of course a W208/55 at that time.
What threw me was it looked like the wheels were 19s - perhaps just a visual anamoly?? The rears were PHAT!!!
Any, congrats on the new acquisition!!

Heh, Chapster, you got to get those wheels. Look again at the right thumbnail photo at Nurburgring ... please excuse the brake dust - have to brake late to keep up with that CLK DTM!

Lol....I still drool when I see these wheels. I suppose I'll need to unload one of the sets of Monoblocks I have in the garage first.

AMG Aero 2-Piece R129 (SL) Wheels on W208
I have found 4 refurbished AMG Aero 2-Piece Wheels to install on my W208 CLK 55 AMG
Since all wheels are going to be refurbished, I'm going for the chrome powder coated instead of the diamond cut for the rim and MB Silver grey on the centre. (chrome powder will be far more durable)
Can't wait
I agree that those wheels are some of the best wheels to put on a W208 CLK !
What would be your advice for tires ?
225/40/18s up front and 255/35/18s
OR
225/40-18 in front and 265/35-18
I don't want to go for 235 on the front as it will probably be too close to the fender !?
My W208 CLK 55 Amg is stock and I haven't done any modifications to the springs/suspensions.
Thanks in advance for your replies

CLK55 AMG (W208)
When installing those, can I use the same bolts or do I need to use longer or shorter ones ?
By the way what are the specs of those bolts ? same in front and rear or different ?
Thank you
