When parked and shifting from Park to Drive or from any position to another causes a short rattling-clunking sound from just under the console cover plate that sounds as if there is a high-density plastic collar around the shift arm just below the cover plate that has come loose. Everything still functions fine but the sound has me a bit worried since sounds seldom get better on their own. Any ideas guys?

I am going to bump this ancient thread because I have the exact same problem now. It 'feels' a little sloppy, but all functions normally. Anyone have a schematic of whats happening under the wood cover plate? Anyone have similar problem? Originally Posted by pigman

I've not had this issue on my 208, but on my 124s this usually indicated shifter bushings needed replacement.
Found that too through some research. I just ordered a bushing and 2 retaining clips in the dark. Autohaus had it for .77. I figured it was a worth a shot.
