Question Bilstein Shocks for W208 CLK55

Hello,
First, does anyone know which Bilstein dampers fit the W208 CLK55? If you use the product finder at www.bilstein.com to search under 01 CLK55, it brings up results only for rear sport shock (pn# F4-B36-1855-H0) . However, if you search under 01 clk430 it brings up results for both front and rear sport shocks (pn# F4-BE3-2599-H0) front, and (pn# F4-B36-1855-H0) rear). I was under the impression that all W208 CLK V8 models use the same shocks, on both front and rear?

Second, I have read on the forums that the CLK55 came from the factory with a Bilstein sport shock. Is this "sport" shock equivalent to the Bilstein "Sport" line that differs from the "HD" line? In my past experiences with other cars, the HD line was designed for use with factory length springs and the Sport line was designed for use with lowering springs. I guess the question is: Does the lower amg spring (as compared to the clk430 spring) require the use of the Sport line shock? If this is the case, then the CLK55 uses Bilstein Sport shocks for both factory length springs and aftermarket lowering springs?

Thanks,
Craig

Your question is not easy to answer based on the information flying around. I had the same question and ended up calling Bilstein directly- which speaking with their rep in CA was not a pleasant experience. From what he told me the CLK55 AMG comes with the HD shock and not the Sport model. However, several articles from the 2001 to 2002 period indicate the shock was the Sport model? In any case, if you have lowering springs like H&R- you will want to go with the Bilstein Sport. But, as a side note, I have been using the original shocks with my H&R springs for two years or so and they still seem fine. When I replace, I will replace with the Bilstein Sport.

I suggest you call them directly as well and confirm. Also, a search online for the model numbers, once you determine the correct ones, will net you some good prices for all four shocks- so check around.

Good luck.

Is anyone on the forum running the Bilstein W208 CLK430 Sport or HD shock on a W208 CLK55 with any success? I have seen several posts mention that Bilsteins for a W208 CLK55 can be bought on ebay for around $320.. I assume they are reffering to this:

According to the pn these are just CLK430 Sport shocks. Has anyone Actually, Personally done this?
Thanks,
Craig
