W209 Question - Suspension & Exhaust

Well in 2-3 months I'm gonna be either going to a 03/04 CLK55 or 01-02 CL55 or 03 CL500. I'm kinda leaning on CLK55 because I love the non supercharged 55 motor to death, I think its bullet proof. BUT, I having been trying to research a few questions and cant get any straight answers.

1. I want to lower the CLK55, cant really find springs for it, any cupkits out there? I here there might be some Brabus springs around?? How much? If I can lower, can it run 19s?????? If anyone has this set up (lowered with 19s) I'd love to see pics.

2. Exhaust. I want more out of the exhaust, usually I just take out the resonators on my cars, this car seems to not have one. How do I bring the exhaust note to life and make it sound even meaner without getting a new muffler?

Yo Highend, it's good to see you on the board again. Your avatar always reminds me of BklynBenz's, LOL. I got a W209 CLK55 these days and understand what you mean about the bullet-proof N/A 55 engine. It's a great performing car for not a lot of coin. I got an oil change and changed the filters to K&N and it feels like a new car.

1) A lot of guys are suggesting to run KW Coilovers or H&R. If I were going to change the suspension (strangely enough, I really enjoy the AMG tuned suspension) I'd go a full Brabus suspension. Once you lower it, you can indeed run 19"s. I would check the CLK W209 picture thread for some pics on 19"s. Personally, I'm going with 18"s to keep the performance up to par.

2) The AMG muffler is great. With the K&Ns it seems to have gotten a bit more louder. Did you know that the part number (air filter) is the same for the W209 55 as the W209 350 and 500 engines? It's no wonder that the 55 engines benefit mroe greatly from air filters than others. As far as other than the resonators, perhaps you could install a larger exhaust pipe??

Yea I've been kind of inactive for awhile since I've been benzless. But no matter what car I get it is still never up to par as a Mercedes. So I decided I want a benz again and I miss these forums.

I watched that evosport video of the exhaust on the 55 and i was but the price of it was somewhat ridiculous even tho they do top notch work. Okay well i'm gonna keep on digging for stuff for this car and see what I can get. But soon as I save up for about another month or 2 I will pull the trigger on either a Black or silver CLK55 or CL500. good to be back.

2003 CLK55
I can say from experience.....the W209 CLK55 has NO resonator. I had the muffler shop put it up on the lift to take mine off only to see there wasn't one. Muffler guy said...."what did you want us to remove?" I said forget it. LOL

As far as lowering I think the W209 has coilovers because just changing the springs doesn't do much. I switch my springs to the Euro-spec springs and it didn't do too much to the front. It lowered the rear some.

Suspension options for the W209 are becoming very limited. Brabus NA no longer keeps W209 stuff in stock. They may still be able to get some parts for you from Germany, but it will be $$$$$$. Eibach no longer carries W209 springs/shocks either.
There may be others out there, but the only two options that I know of are H&R and Bilstein.

I installed H&R's and had the resonators removed. The car runs and sounds great. I kept my 17's because they are new. I also had my ECU re-flashed and my performance (and my gas mileage) has improved a lot.

03 CLK 55 AMG, IMCO muffler/Magnaflow tips, KW V1 coilovers, 19" Petrol Metrix Wheels
i am taking pics tonight so you guys can see but i am running 19x8's up front and 19x9.5's in the rear and riding on KW V1 coilovers. the car looks low and mean. Springs are ok but if you are really want to change the way the car handles buy coilovers. it will cost you extra but it is a 55 so it is worth it. right now i have just under six grand in my car and it is perfect. you are going to have to spend some money on this car to get it to look like you want.

Your car DOES have a resonator and does NOT have coilovers......

I'll post some this week-end. BTW, my CLK appears to be identical to yours e.g. same color and optional equipment packages.
