Latest pics of the new CLK...errr ehhh, the new E Coupe
Sorry bout the loss of the CLK name BTW. Don't like this move from Benz.
The current Mercedes-Benz CLK is something of an enigma - built around the C-Class platform, styled like the E-Class, and priced in between the two, the car sits in its own unique segment and has no direct competition from its German rivals. Its sales history has been a strong success, especially in the U.S., but reports are surfacing that the German carmaker is planning to end the CLK name and instead brand its successor as an ‘E-Class’ Coupe and Convertible.

Looks like they are shooting for the BMW 6 Series and the Audi 5.
I think I will pass.

CLK55 / E350 Coupe
I find it impossible benz to make an ugly car. If anything your gonna hate it at first, then love it later. I thought the CLK w208 looked goofy with its headlights when it first came out, now round headlights look classy.
Hope the new CLK isn't bigger

My fear is exactly that. The W209 was bigger than the W208. Now bigger and heavier than the last one. Like I said aiming for the BMW 6 series.

the new mercedes also look really top heavy. they have to work on getting the center of gravity down a little bit. i think the black series sits just right and it has plenty of room. this new car looks even bigger than the black and the black is plenty big.

I agree...
I've always loved the w208, but when the w209 first came out, I thought it was the sexiest car I've ever seen! But as they keep coming out with newer models, I'm starting to rekindle my love for the, dare I say it, "classics".
But also like GiZzO said, I'll probably hate it at first, but I'm sure I'll eventually love it too. I don't think there has ever been a Benz that I didn't like.

I really hope they don't leave that black plastic piece on the rear window. That looks dumb. I hoipe its just part of the camo.
I agree....the car looks big.
I see influences of the new C class in the grill and the way the hood sits on the front quarter panel.
Not sure what the rear is gonna look like. Looks add right now.
I'll be very pissed if the drop the CLK name. That doesn't make sense. When I talked with Rob Allen at the NY auto show he never mentioned once that the name was gonna change. Maybe he didn't know it at the time?

CLK55 / E350 Coupe
From a marketing name the name E-class coupe sounds to be more of value. Like your getting a 2 door e-class, which your not. But looks so similar and almost priced the same as a E. To be honest now that i say this it deserves to hold its own title, its a different car all on its own.

Well, if you don't think its based off the C class then take a look at the steering wheel and dash. Looks like the C class too me.
I disagree that it needs a new title. Keep CLK.

i think the car looks great. it looks much more aggressive than the w208 or w209, but i really dislike the taillights.
Also think the headlights would look much better if it was one connnected headlamp, instead of being seperated like the current E class.

Looks like a 2-door, W204 C-class coupe. If it's built using the W211 chassis, like the CLS, then it's okay to call it the E-class coupe.
Either way, it's the next step for MBZ, for better or for worse. Having owned both the W208 and W209, both in Black Opal, I think both are great. The W209 looks more svelte and tapered than the W208, which is both good and bad from certain angles. I like the W209 for its updated coupe grille (flat hood emblem with star in grille), but from a flat side view, the W208 looks more muscular and agressive.
If they stop the CLK/CL names, then I guess all of us will now have limited edition models, LOL!
