Angry Bad Cams in my brand new CLK55

Well, I brought my 2002 CLK55 into the dealership to have my front tires replaced (bad since new...out of round), a creak somewhere in the roof fixed, and an intermittent rough idling problem fixed. The car actually stalled one time while I was waiting at a red light. The car has 3000 miles on it, 2000 of which are a trip back and forth to the Autofest in Indiana a month or so ago. Today I received a telephone call from my dealer, telling me they got the car to run rough, after being there since tuesday. They said the cams have to be replaced. They also noticed a large buildup of carbon when they looked under the plenum. They don`t know what is causing this. I did not speak to a mechanic, only someone in service. I plan on going there tomorrow for a more detailed explanation of what the hell is wrong with my "Hand Built By AMG" motor. Has anyone else had anything similar with a CLK55, CL55, or E55???

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
No CLK 55 problems, except

Squeaky sunroof as posted here two days ago.

I have 2,500 miles on it. Use high test gas from COSTCO.

55% highway, 45% city miles.

QUESTIONS:

1. What kind of gas do you use?

2. highway/city miles % ?

CLK 55
I use only premium fuel. Drove the car for the first 1000 miles a mix of city & highway. Took the car on a 2000 mile round trip which can be considered almost all highway. I had a 99 CLK430, and had no problems. I don`t baby it either, my foot goes into it quite a bit. I did however, take it easy during the first 500 miles.

Just for the hell of it once I used COSTCO 92 octane fuel. I got the worst mileage out of that tank of gas. I have since switched back to my usual 91 octane Union 76 or 91 octane Chevron. I still wonder to this day if COSTCO waters their fuel down. A friend of mine had the same expirence as well.

Never encountered a problem w/Costco gas

Have been using Costco for years. On the CLK55 I am getting 18/19 mpg. Tried American high test, same.

I've been using it on hondas, acuras, corvettes, sls, and now the clk55.

Perhaps location has to do with "watered down gas".

My E55 was stalling every once in a while at stop lights last month. I took it to the dealer and found out it was the Mass Air Sensor and ignition actuator. Fixed for free under warranty and I feel my car is fast than ever. That is shocking to hear that you have a CAM problem. I know that a car is not a person but maybe a second opinion is needed??
