whats the best way to launch the clk55? (more)

Also, what is the official 0-60 time of the clk55? i have an 01 clk55, and benz states it as 4.9...yet, when i look at magazines that test them, they have results ranging from 5.0 to 5.4....so im very curious about that..is it b/c they have been launching the car incorrectly? Anyways, thanks ahead of time for any clarification on this.

5-5.4 would be uphill. I did 0-60 in about 5.6-5.7 in my 430. Unless you know the shift points, I'd just punch it from a standstill. You can try flooring it in first, and shifting at 5500 (takes 1/2 a sec to shift, so in reality is around 6000). When I do that properly in my 430, it kicks when it goes into second.

What do you mean by "kicks"? Does it break the tires loose? Chirp second? I haven't hammered mine yet as it is not broken in.

I've gotten the best times at the track launching my 430 close to 2000rpms in Drive (surprisingly, and I've experimented a lot) with traction control on.

The best way to launch your car is to just touch the gas, take of nice and slow, sit back and watch EVERYONE around you stare at your ride wishing they were you.

No but seriously, I've raced different cars at the track, and the one thing I can tell you is that every car performs differently.

The behaviour of the car can depend on suspenssion, tires, weather conditions etc. etc.

Your car will launch different when the motor is cold than when it's hot.

Best thing to do I think is to play with it. Go to the track and try different things. You'll get it right. This way you'll find out what works & what doesn't.

Good luck.

Basically chirps, however it seldom actually chirps. It's more of the feeling of a perfect shift, when the car hesitates for a split second to get into gear and then comes out stronger than before.!

CLK55
Ennis Texas Motorplex Feb 2nd

There is a "Test N Tune" day coming up at Ennis - I'm going to run the 55. I'm not going to try any crazy power braking or anything

I just figure for the first run just leave ESP on and hold it to the floor.

After that I might try ESP and roll into the accelerator....

If that works without wheels spin - I might just hammer it off the line and see if it will hook up - if not I'll just back out of it and do a lazy run....

so - any takers on what she will run with ESP on and K&Ns? Think I can get anywhere close to the 13.6 we've seen in the mags?
