Picking up my CLK55 soon..few questions
Hello All
,
I'm new to the forum and will be picking up an 03 CLK55 with 14k miles on the clock. I hope learn more about the car and in turn contribute some useful info here on this forum.
So at 14k miles, should I flush all the fluids? Anything else I need to look at? Sorry if this is not the right forum to post.
All comments are appreciated!

Not exactly as the car is still in his possesion, he said I can get all the records from the dealer. My main concern is that the car is 7 years old and the fluids might have been contaminated sitting that long...

Personally, I would consider changing all the fluids if there has not been evidence of timely service.
That includes:
Radiator Flush
Oil
Transmission
Brakes
Differential
Washer fluid optional

Congrats and welcome!

For W209s, the manual doesn't ever call for the transmission fluid to be changed. However, it is the opinion of most of us that it definitely should be changed around 60K.
One thing you do definitely need to check - does the car have a Valeo radiator? The transmission fluid runs through the radiator for cooling, and those radiators had a nasty little habit of leaking coolant into your transmission fluid. My experiences with it here: http://www.amgpower.com/forums/showt...p?t=422&page=3
Congratulations on your purchase, and welcome!

/\ fortunately, I did some research here on the forum and found out the bout the defects of the Valeo coolant tank/radiotor. I brought up the issue with the seller and he said he had it checked out and it was fine....
Thanks for the warm welcome!

F14TOMCAT,
I see that you have projector head light in your 04 clk55. Can I retrofit those into my 03... I love the projectors in my s2000 and it would be nice to have those in the clk too...

Our '04 came with the bi-xenon lighting package. I have no idea if you can retrofit those to your '03. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will chime in and answer.

Welcome! Nice find with only 14K miles. You can probably retrofit the Xenons but it will cost you. Search the forum...it must have been posted before. Also check out the W209 forum as well. Good luck.

Stupid statement on my part - but check the tires as well. Look for evidence of unbalanced alignment - and check the conditions of the rear tires. I looked at three or four before I bought mine - and the cars all pulled to the left or right. With corresponding evidence of tire wear. You will get used to your 55 eating tires for breakfast - but mostly on the rears. MB also told me to watch for a couple of other non-obvious things in a car thats been sitting:
Memory seats - do they respond to the key - and does the headrest move up and down when seats move forward and have full travel
Do the air pockets on the seats inflate and deflate fully
Do the heated seats (if equipped) function on both sides.
Fluids - definitely agree - flush the lot - replace it all.
Air conditioner - does it blow really cold air ? Does it need re-gassing/charging etc.
Take it easy for the first 500 miles.

On the other question on retrofitting lights - I know two guys here that changed the light assembly to bi-Xenon (imported cars - not original European spec). Mine has it already and it was standard in the european models from 03 onwards. So the guy at the dealer told us all cars could handle it - but in the US for some reason it was an option.
The Bi-Xenons are by far a better lighting system and its not just an appearance thing. If you can pay for it do it !
