High Flow Secondary Cats actually make decent power on dyno...

Hello,

Customer's W208 CLK 55 AMG with high flow 300-cell metal core 2nd cats made 9.7HP @ 5300HP and 12TQ @ 4000-4100 at the rear wheels on DD loading dyno (~12HP 15TQ @ crank). Honestly, that is quite a bit more than I was expecting. It appears all the NA 5.5L AMGs respond very well to high flow 2nd cats. I don't have graphs but I just remembered peak gains. Not a bad performance gain for $300 installed parts & labor. Just thought I would share for those interested in doing 2nd cats upgrade...

FYI, heres a dyno hooleyboy did with 2nd cats removed for reference sake, also on DD dyno. Its a little bit more than 2nd cats but honestly not that much more, might as well stay 100% street legal and get the high flow 2nd cats. Link:

For more info on the cats used check out the ebay link below. They are 300-cell metal core 49 state legal OBD2 cats. If you email the seller you can get an additional discount and get two shipped for $180 total.

talk to me about your crank pulley? i have one a lightweight pulley on a VW GTI 1.8T that i own but the haromonic balancer was not an issue. can you explain this a little more in depth. i am definitely considering this upgrade. it was well worth it for my VW.

Interesting... after replacing my 2ndary cats with straights and adding a hi flow muffler and air filters, i thought it felt a good bit stronger. Good post AMS!

Its not just in your head, there are significant gains for the NA 55s. Its also important to note that much of the gains from Long Tube style headers is due to the elimination of one set of cats. This proves that you can run shorty style headers (such as ours) with high flow secondary cats and get almost identical results as long tubes while still remaining 100% street legal for a small fraction of the cost.

Glad we could help
