Just curious but are you not allowed to overtake anyone else? Is that how it works you just follow the car in front of you? What if you get the itch to really hammer it at higher speeds?

As far as the track went, several AMGs participated in a joint MBCA/Lotus event that spanned several days. The laps at Talladega were just one of the events going on over the expanded weekend.
One you were registered (and paid the $50), you could drive your own car on the high bank - behind a pace vehicle. The pace vehicle averaged 80-90 mph and so many of us let off on the straights to hammer the corners. I saw 125, but others (I think the last group of the day) hit Vmax.
The SL65 Black and CLK63 Black weren't there this day - we returned for the track day at Barber later that weekend.
