there is absolutely no space at the undercarriage. the spare wheel takes up most of the space.
I'll have my 4-pipe exhaust fitted by AMG in about two weeks. Fitting will take 1-2 days because the whole underbody gets reworked and the spare wheel case removed.

Why don't you ask MBUSA in the mean time why they don't offer the 4-pipe exhaust in the US?

Contact Evosport or Performance Products

This is only a guess, but evosport is capable of amazing custom jobs. Maybe give them a call and they could do it if there is sufficient demand. also, I know performance products has a quad exhaust for w208 and im sure they will come out with one for the 209 soon.

So, it's only a single pipe going from the headers to the exhaust?

Wow, with a V8 I thought it would be at least 2.

Any ideas on this?

i believe it's two headers that feed into one pipe.

There are a lot of rumours about a CLK 55K right now, but it's possible that people just saw a CLK with the new 4-pipe exhaust and automatically guessed it was a V8K.

BTW, I finally got mine:

Good luck. I don't know any tuner who offers it because the whole underbody has to be reworked and the spare tire section removed.

But I once saw a CLK 55 (W 208) with a 'fake' 4-pipe exhaust. There was no rear silencer on the right side. Only the end pieces that were connected to the left rear silencer, but you didn't notice until you looked under the car. If I remember correctly, this was done by the German tuner http://www.vaeth.com/

Don't you have any top-notch mechanics that aren't afraid of the underbody work? Or would there be a problem with certification afterwards?

Insurance reason nobody will do it and they will need to cut an exhaust outlet in the bumper that will match exactly like the one on the left. I have yet to come across someone who will do it with confidence.

Yeah I was just going to say that MH-Dezent makes one for the W208...any competent tuner in the US can do this kit for you.

Then go get it. Carlsson offers a 4-pipe exhaust for almost all C- and CLK-Class models. If you prefer the AMG-look (I would), just replace the end pieces.

Enjoy!

For those of you with the 208 Chassis, EVO Sport in California (evosport.com) has already performed the quad exhaust conversion. They accomplish it by turning two AMG mufflers 90 degrees and packing them into the same space as the bigger single muffler. Then they run the second pipe to the passenger side as in the AMG conversion. This eliminates the need for cutting up the spare tire well.

I am looking into the model mufflers used and see if they will sell a kit for you 208 guys. It may be posible to accomplish the same for the 209 chassis but EVO has not done a 209 as yet. If one of you California guys with a 209 can visit EVO they will devlop the same for the 209!

I might suggestthat for those interested see a reputable body shop - maybe even at your dealer - to cut out the bumper and do the paint touch up, then have the exhaust installed.

Let me know if anyone in the USA runs across of a quad system for the 209.

I'm on the east coast. We'll need to get one of our west coast contingent to see and hear the car!

I'll be visiting Carlsson on friday. Maybe I can get some soundfiles of their C/CLK quad exhaust.

Ronald,

Some suggestions for your visit with Carlsson.

While you are there see if you can get a part number (and euro price) for the Carlsson quad kit for the CLK55 - 209 chassis. Then we could all order it from Oberklasse here in the USA.

You could also inquire if their quad kit is a true dual exhaust as I assume the AMG version is, as opposed to a single pipe that Y's off into the quad exhaust.

Do they state any performance gain?

Lastly, it would be helpful if they could provide some installation instructions. With that in hand we could go to local auto shops (tuners) and see who is capable of performing this conversion before ordering.

Lookimg forward to hearing from you next week.
