Depending on if your car us US spec or Euro spec it makes a difference whether you have 1 or 2 sets of cats. The W209 CLK500 & CLk550 US Spec do have primaries & secondaries, if you are over seas then you will only have one set of cats. Hope that helps.

Thericker - glad to help out

I deleted the two things i circled(in red)....except on my 07 CLK550 there was ONE of the first bubble things not 2, and my exhaust stop told me they were just reasonaters.

The resonatoer i circled in purple, is that the primary or secondary? that's the only one i see and it looks to be on my headers.

Are these high flow cats drop in or do they need drilling for the 02sensor?

Per the California Air Resources Board website the following cats are legal for OBDII Mercedes Benz’
  • Car Sound (Magnaflow) 46000 series cats for 1996-2000
  • AirTek (CATCO) 410000 series cats for 1995-2002 (can't find them in the CATCO catalog)
  • Miller Catalyzer Corp 12000/11000 series cats for 1995-2004
  • Valina (CarTex) 12500 series cats for 1996-2000.
None of those have a metal substrate. Other than that, you’ll need a *friendly* SoCal muffler shop. Anyone want to start a private PM chain? Don't post it in the open or the *friendly* shop will probably get closed. Another option – Vegas. Perhaps an MBWorld poster from Vegas can make a shop recommendation for those willing to drive out on Friday night, get the cats installed Saturday morning, and then wrap up the weekend at the tables.
Very helpful post, Marcus! Great insights for those of us in Calif. I like the Vegas idea. I used to do those trips once a month in college, these days it's more like once a year, lol.

Andy,

I just did a true dual on my CLK550 and find a bit too loud. I origionally took out the 2 bubble resonators and the secondary cat. Will i lose a lot of power going from no secondary cats to this? I'm only doing it becuase i find that my car is a bit too loud and has too much drone.

I used these 300 cell cats w/custom downpipes from my Turbos, relocated O2 sensors & bungs NO check Engine lights & recently passed stringent CA SMOG w/NO tricks on crapy 91 octane. They're surprisingly afforable & durable been on nearly (2) years now...

Do you just have the 300 cells in place or do you also have secondaries?

The links to eBay have expired...can anyone help me find these? There are so many universal options and most don't tell you the cell psi...

Ordering some headers, so I need to get these too!

There are several ways to go about it and it's true most of us on the forum went with the X-pipe.

My setup: Stock headers --> X Pipe --> Straight Pipes --> Borla Muffler --> 300 cell cats to the exhaust tips and it's loud.
