Tire Size Problem

Dropped my car off to the local tire guys. It has oem 17'' with stock 245/40/17 tires. Its also lowered with H/R springs. I was having them install 255/45/17 tires. When I went to pick it up, they said it was rubbing the strut....are they messing with me or did I screw up?

whao. hold on a sec. did you want to put these on all around the car? or just the rears?

what brand of tire did you get in 255/45/17? different tires have different measures of sidewall thickness.

a 45 seriers profile on the rear is too big and it most likely will rub.

i run 255/40/17 on all 4 corners of my clk. I got another pair or rear wheels for the front to fit the tires.

in the rear of my car it doesn't rub unless i hit a speedbump at speed or have more than 2 people in the car.

our setups as far as the suspension goes, are the same. let me know.

I'm running 265/35/18's on the back and 235/40/18's on the front. Think 45's will be too tall.

yea it'll rub, their not pulling your chain.

i ran it through a caculator

stock your car has 3.9 inches of side wall.
the new tire has 4.5 inches

diameter increased from 24.7 inches to 26.0 inches.

the tire is just to large for your setup.

Yes, the 45 is too tall to be combined with the 255 width.

When I was running stock 18" wheels, I went with a 255/35/18 set up. Hope this helps

ok lets try this again, returned the tires pretty easily thank god! Will the 255/40/17 Michelin PS A/S plus fit on the oem rims with a H&R drop? I really want to put a wider tire on the rim but dont want to the the spacer route if I dont have too

can't say for sure about h&r springs but with coilovers you definitely need min. 10mm spacers. See exhibit A below

I just got a new set of 18" Forgestars, was gonna put the same size as you on the rear, do u know anybody who has tried 245/35/18 on the front?

I looked up the specs, they are slightly wider than your 235/40/18, but overall diameter is slighly less, I was thinking they might look a bit more aggressive, but haven't seen any threads where anybody has tried it on a a W208.

thanks
