Hmm, i just saw a 208 cabriolet with clk 55 amg on the rear with the dealer plate still on it. Is there such a thing??? Is it possible the dealer sells it unsuspectingly to a customer??

They are real but only a limited quantity were ever produced (around 800 in the US). They were only avilable in 2002 (no '01's were produced). So the price is also at a premium. Lowest I've seen one go for was $59K. Most dealers are asking $65-$73. Pricy for a car that's heavier (and thus slower) than the coupe. Nice car but still a little pricey IMHO. BTW I really like those wheels and had planned on trying to find a set for my '01 coupe but decided that that I wanted larger wheels than those 17's.

Yeah, it's possible. I was shopping around for a CLK55. Went to several dealers, a couple of them still have brand new 02 CLK55s coupes or cabrio in their showrooms. Almost got the red CLK55 at Flectcher Jones until seveal kids went in there playing and stepping all over the seats....

Real...and awesome!
I bought mine off ebay in January 02 and actually got a $5k discount from the $82k sticker. It has 15k on it now, and is a real blast to drive. It replaced a 2000 911 C4 coupe since my kids outgrew the rear seat on the Porsche, and the CLK is so much larger. Not quite up to the performance level of the 911, but still, fun with the top down when the exhaust note really sounds fine. I recently leased a C32 to keep the miles down on my cabrio. And because of the unique wheels on this model, I have stuck with the OEM setup and not moved up to eighteens.

The local dealers and even MB Headquarters say that there is no production date set yet for CLK55 Cabriolet.
However, May issue of Mercedes Enthusiast (UK) has a great article about the new CLKs, and the guy says he is driving the CLK55 Cab already --and loves it!
Is he lying ?
Do the Brits get them way before the Colonies ?
Does anyone have good INFORMATION as to when this hot car will be coming to the US.?

The W208 AMG cabrio was a good memory for me because I asked to a MB seller if they will release one and his answer was no because the car wouldn't handle such a power. 3 months later, there was one in the showroom

It was officially announced March 24th...launching in Europe now....I would guess it will launch in the US in about 9 months

When I said that that I was advised by MBZ that there was no production date set for above car, I should have made myself more clear. I meant "no production date set yet for U.S.A."
That is why I asked if anyone had an opinion w/re possible USA date. I know they are already on the road in Europe, and I specifically mentioned UK.

I went through this thread just a couple days ago. Yesterday, I saw a silver W208 AMG CLK55 in downtown Manhattan - the top was open. Amazing car!

I guess I wasn't clear enough in the email, my dealer told me that the 55 cabs will make it here in the US as an '04 model. According to him, July or August is the expected date, which would mean that they would debut at the same time as the rest of the '04 lineup. I also picked up the '04 amg brochure and they have the 55 cab in there, meaning that the car is going to be in the US. Hope this helps.
