01 CLK55 Wheels

Can I fit 19x8 and 19x9 on the '01 CLK55 -- tirerack rep told me only 7.5 and 8.5 will work...? Also, what tires will fit on these and not cause rubbing w/ stock suspension-- again tirerack rep told me 255's are the widest I can go...? BTW, I'm thinking of getting the SSR GT3's.

thanks,
mike

Depending on the offset of these wheels, 8in fronts and 9in rears will be no problem at all. Usually, aftermarket companies that list the wheels for a MB maintain the factory offsets, and thus, have ~10-20mm to play with for the CLK55.

Tires, 235 fronts and 265 rear are a safe bet, unless again, the offset is exteme. As long as it's ~35mm, then everything that I've posted stands true.
I don't have the exact offset for the HREs I just put on, I'll measure it for you the next time I pop a wheel off though. They told me the same thing when I put them on, 225 fronts and 255 rear was the largest I could go. After doing some research with "actual" wheel and tire dimensions, 235 fronts and 275 rear AVS/S Yokos clear just fine.

That's interesting... Tirerack's website only lists 18x8, 18x9 and 19x8, 19x9 for the car. How can they quote you 7.5/8.5?

To answer your question, yes, you can fit 19x8, 19x9. Your tire size should be 235/35/19F and 265/30/19R.

<shrug>

Well, I think I might be ordering the 19x8 (235/35/19F)19x9 (265/30/19R) SSR GT3's. Wow, these are low profile. How's the ride quality? I had these on my M3, and the ride was 'neck breaking'.

Just called the TireRack dude, and now he tells me that I'll need to roll my fender for the 19's!!?? Is this true? If this is the case, I'll go w/ the 18's.

I wasn't able to find a good full-car pic, so this teaser pic will have to do:
