E55k Tranny in clk500 ...

Whatsup guys im looking to buy a e55k tranny from one of the forum members here because of the glycol contamination in my tranny i have an 03 clk500 with 78k miles and i believe the tranny is 722.633 if i put the e55 tranny and keep my current tcu it will adapt to my car right do i need anything additional to make it work ? i want the amg tranny because i drive hard and i am slowly modding my car and i can use the faster gear switches with the speed shift and so it can handle a stronger load besides the tranny and tourque converter and my own tcu what else do it need or is it plug and play my tranny is reaching the end of its life already and i need t odo something about it asap.. TIA you guys are great

Maybe try using some punctuation so that we can actually see where thoughts start/stop? Myself, I got half way through and gave up...

your transmission is almost identical as the 55k one. There's really no point. You would actually be much better off doing a performance rebuild of your current transmission than trying to "upgrade" to a 55k. It will probably end up costing less as well. You can greatly improve shift times alone just by doing a performance rebuild with much tighter tolerances. In addition, you can always to the TCU software upgrade on your existing TCU to improve shifting performance as well.

Hey frc if you have no knowledge dont say nothing, moving on..thanks AMS the reason i want to replace is because my tranny is almost done anyway and the price im getting for the 55k tranny is much cheaper then it will be to rebuild it or buy one from a 500. Rebuild is around 4-5K and the 55 one is about 2k, so im thinking that would be to my advantage what would i need AMS ?... just simple plug and play use my current tcu? reprogram to 55 shift points ? or would i use the tcu from the 55 tranny and it will take care of everything on its own. I just want to be able to save money but at the same time get something better and stronger since i plan on modding in the future and need to know exactly in detail what i would need complete transmission unit, my own tcu and reprogram it so my car has faster shift points and acts as a 55, or if i dont reprogram it just plug and play will the computer recognize it and act like a standard non amg 500 transmission and i can reflash at later time. I just need to have that cleared up for me. Thanks AMS btw i will be looking into your stage two performance package hopefully in 2 weeks

A proper performance rebuild is roughly $1500-2000, and it will greatly out perform an old worn 55k tranny. When a tranny goes bad its usually just a few bad rubber seals, your clutch packs are probably still fine (although you should still replace of course). Also, this way you don't need to change out TCUs (if necessary) or anything else.

The TCU reflash is simple, just send it in for a reflash and it will improve shift speed and in some situations change your shift points depending on your application. I believe Speed Tuning USA actually has a package deal for Engine ECU + TCU reflash, so you may want to contact them and go ahead and do both if you haven't already.

Certainly, whenever you are ready for stage 2 feel free to contact us at your convenience.
