CLK55 or E55?
I am contemplating between an E55 and a CLK55 from the same year. I found that the E55 usually costs about $10k-12k more than the CLK55. Is that a justifiable number for a little more HP and 2 doors more?
I don't usually carry adults in the back seat but some time two little kids (we have a minivan for them ). So basically it is a car for commuting to work (round trip about 20 miles). My existing one is a Mercedes wagon on its last leg.
Have any of you in that conundrum? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

2001 CLK 55 AMG.......... 2001 Corvette Z06.........
IMO the clk 55 looks cooler but for a daily commuter I would think the e55 would be the better choice.
Take it with a grain of salt bc I've never driven an e55 but the clk 55 is a straight up sports car n u feel the bumps.

My '04 on its 'last leg.' . It has almost 200k miles on it. We drove a lot to visit both our parents when the kids were not in school. My wife still drive them to see her parents on some weekends.
Our '04 had the case of glycol contaminant and I had replaced the radiator a couple of years ago. Recently, the transmission started to slip and I don't want to spend another $5000 to have it fixed (not worth it any more). My wife has a minivan to shuttle the kids around ... so I figure I'll try a used AMG for fun. I don't shuttle clients at all so having two doors might not be a big issue.
Thanks for chiming in ...

Just done a 200 mile round trip to Brighton and back to see clients and walked back in the door 5 mins ago!! Not much else I've ever driven can cope with that without breaking into a sweat and pampering me all the way. CLK all the way!!!! Looks nice - with your sunnier climate might go Cab as well!!

I think you should do some back/back test drives as dohcfiend points out coupe is bumpier. that said, the flip side is the sedan doesn't have as much "feel" if you're going around corners or wanting more connection to driving experience. both will be fun for you so you can't really go wrong...just a matter of what you might feel like at the moment.

General, I am looking along these same lines-CLK550 vs 211 E55. I'd kinda like a low mileage bone stock E55, but they seem to be fairly high priced despite being 5-8 years old; like if you search the M-B site for a certified E55, you're looking at $45K. Colors other than black or silver ? Forget it ! Same thing in a 2-3 year old CLK550 is cheaper-in fact, Ive seen cars with 300 miles under $50K. Is there a year where there was a CLK63 coupe available ? I don't mean the Black Series...who wouldn't want one of those ? But, umm, $80K ? No. Just no.

blind test definatly the W211 itself feels alot better. Its a better built more refined car infact i think looks better then the W209.
Now since in your last post you said your comparing a W211 AMG to a W209 non AMG right there no brainer! E55 is a beast, it really doesn't feel all that much bigger a fantastic family car, i also own a W211 and W208 AMG, two different personalities.

Thanks everyone for the insights. After much research, I have decided to go with the regular CLK500. I picked one up a few hours ago from the MB dealer. '05 Black/Black with 38k miles. See you over at the regular CLK forum
