Slight delay in shift

I have noticed that on my 04 CLK55 that under heavy acceleration gear shifts do not respond to my request as quickly as they do during "normal" driving. Whether I use the paddles of gear shift the result is the same. At moderate acceleration the shift happens instantly. Under heavy acceleration the shift may happen a second later than the request. This is generally in the 4k to 5k rpm range, manual or C/S modes. I never feel any slippage, it's just slightly delayed.

Is this normal?

I bought the car used so I'm not sure what is normal compared to what may possibly be the signs of a problem. I know all the shifts are ultimately controlled by the computer so is it possible the computer is deciding for me?

i did the transmission ECU reset and it seems to have maed the shifts a little more crisp.

You can hear the slower shifting even on the highly modified clk55's around here. Just check out you-tube vids of clk55's.

thanks for the info,

if this is a normal thing for these cars then the question that comes to mind is:

Why build a high performance car like this and have such a slow shift when performance is needed/expected?

There are way more knowledgable people on here on trans tech than I, but I suspect it's to avoid the "jerky" shift-kit feel of an american muscle car....

Every CLK55 does that. It's to help preserve your transmission.
