2000 CLK55 de-cat/resonater removal
Having done a little research prior to purchase on 55 AMG cars I have learned that many owners have resonators removed as opposed to replacing the full system to get a more sporty tone.
I am taking the car to a reputable bespoke exhaust fabricator here in the UK next week to do the job but thought I'd ask you guys a question before I do. Is there anything I should worry about when doing this? For example, will it effect the ECU etc? I guess the other thing to consider should I only be removing a silencer/resonator or two and leave the CAT well alone?
Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated and tales from experience.
Many thanks in advance,
James.
Welcome - I'm from the UK as well - Isleworth Near Gillette Corner A4 - if you know the area - this is known as a res delete - I've not done it yet but any ok exhaust shop should be able to do it - I had a full ss system made up for a Twin Turbo Lexus Soarer by http://www.longlife.co.uk - there should be one near you. Nothing should be affected by doing it no engine warning lights etc so its an easy cheap one - gives you a bit more sounds and probably a few more horses - If you've just got your car come down to MB World at Brooklands Weybridge on the 12th December - there's a Pistonheads meet and loads of Merc people are going from MB Club in the UK - thats if your down South and don't live in Scotland etc!!
