W208 CLK55 and snow tires - info not question
I'm new to the forum, MB's, and snow.
FWIW, I just picked up a 2001 CLK55. The car is drivable with the stock tires and wheels - but requires all of your attention and a great deal of experience with rear wheel drive vehicles in low friction conditions.
That being said, I picked up 4x MSW type 14 7.5"x17 wheels from Luke at Tirerack with Dunlop wintersports 225 40 17's
The car will actually turn and stop. The wheels actually look good on the car and accept the factory center caps.
The traction control combined with the "w" setting on the trans will keep you out of oversteer trouble - if you are not a complete jacka$$.
I hope this helps someone somewhere at sometime.
Thanks
Tim

I'm just through my third winter in Canada with an 02 CLK55, with no problems other than clearance.
I run the original staggered setup with 245/40/17 rear / 225/45/17 front, with the Dunlop WinterSport 3Ds, also from Luke at TireRack.

I think I'm going to sell the stock wheels with the new nexen tires and pick up a set of 18" stagger AMG 5 (10) spoke wheels. Any suggestions on which ones work with the w208?

This one isn't so bad for a cell phone pic
