Just bought my 2nd CLK55 - 2005 Coupe! And how I finally found one. LONG

I use to have a 2001 CLK55 AMG, I really enjoyed it. Got the P car bug, so decided to sell it and search for a 911. Well the plan went to the waste side, went through a few cars over the last couple years. Actually really missed my 01 CLK55. So started looking for a 2005 awhile ago, then later put a WTB in the for sale section on this site.

No leads

Sold my daily driver, needed a car quick. Found a MINT, I mean MINT 1998 540i with 46k Miles. Bought it. Paid top dollar for it. Decided I would drive it till I found something nice. Was looking for a auto for a relative, and decided, why not I'll put a 2005 CLK55 coupe into autotrader.

BAM! There was one, with low miles and in my choice color. Brilliant Silver. I was astounded. It was just posted with only afew views. Sent him an email, and then ended up talking to him the next Day. Very nice guy. Car was maintained very well, also had some nice Kleeman mods, new tires, brake pads etc. There was just one slight problem. It was over 800 miles away. I have never bought a car out of state and since I just bought the Bimmer, didnt really want to deal with two cars again.

Well after the long convo I had with the owner, I gave him an offer. He wanted to think about it over the weekend. I said that was fine. So I thought to myself....if he accepts it, and I get some interest in my 540i, I take the leap of faith and head down there to pick it up.

I put the 540i on CL and it sold with in 13 hours. He calls and accepts my offer. I couldn't believe it. Bought the plane tickets, and went on down to OKC. The car was exactly as described, and bought it. Drove it straight back to Chicago. Took a little over 12 hours and killed more bugs than the Orkin man in a year. Absolutely disgusting. Driving through the Ozarks in Missouri was a blast though! This car sounds amazing!

Cleaned the AMG up and without further ado....

That's a beautiful find. Love the big brakes.

Any chance it has option 213 - speed sensitive steering?

Thanks everyone. Still can't believe I found an 05 in this condition.

How can I tell if it has option 213?

Nice CLK55

Congrats,

I have noticed that your car has quds tail pipes, it looks very nice is that a conversion or original? my friend also has a W209 CLK55 AMG, his one origially had dual but later changed it to quad and a secondary cat delete, sounds great.

Enjoy

Thanks! It is Factory original, 2005 coupes came with quads and many other updates compared to the 2003 to 2004.

It should be listed on the option coding plaque under the hood. This is really a rare option. I'm trying to retrofit it and am having a helluva time finding a sample car!!!

The attached is a sample picture of the option coding plaque.

Thanks!!

I checked, I do not have it the 213 listed. What determines if a car has it? Mine is a very early production 2005.

Thanks! Yours as well. You liking that Renntech Airbox? I am thinking about picking one up.

Thanks. The Renntech airbox looks nice and actually seems to do something. Very expensive for the gains but when you want to stay naturally aspirated every little bit adds up Is that a brake upgrade on your CLK or did the 2005s have that?

2005 had the SL55 brakes standard from the factory, the 2005 coupe is pretty darn cool.

If i find that box for a decent deal I think im going to pick it up.

I guess this is a rare option. The only other way to know is to check the steering rack for the solenoid connection and wiring harness to the ESP ECU.

It's a great option - liquid smooth steering at low speeds still with great feedback, and it gets progressively less assisted the faster you go. Depending on the model, it can be a tighter ratio also. MB references it as parametric or speed sensitive steering. Once you drive with it, in my opinion, you won't want an MB without it.

I was hoping your car had it as I was going to ask you the ESP ECU part number for my retrofit.

It does feel like my car's steering sensitivity changes. Really easy to move when moving in a parking lot, but at highway it firms up.

I believe the only Xenons for the CLK55 are OEM. (I know an aftermarket housing is in the works) These are Hella Factory OEM Xenons.

Since, the absence of power headlight washer jets, I believe them to be put in afterward, and the PCM reprogrammed for them. However, I talked to my local benz dealer, and he said that xenons are on the build sheet, and it is possible for the car to not have the washers dependent on the location of where it is to be shipped. Then again, this could be typical dealer talk. Also, may have it to due to the fact that this was a very early production 05, the window sticker said it had Bose, when in fact it has Harmon Kardon. This is the second time I have seen a 2005 with Bose Sounds system listed, but having the HK. So if that was different, guess other things could be as well.

Either way they are OEM Xenons. Saved me the cost of doing it myself if it didn't have it. I <3 Xenons

Never understood why someone would not get them, IMO, they should have come standard on the W209 CLK55 AMG, like they were on my W208.

PS:

I think you actually inquired about buying my 01 when I had it up for sale a couple years ago. Cool to see you got a 2005!

I checked my 2005 CLK55 and do not have that option either.

Very nice Nachtsturm, I wanted mine in silver but ended up with black.
